milan, italy - pizza, pasta, and the boss

Shortly after setting foot back in Switzerland following our wedding and honeymoon in Italy, we immediately packed our bags and headed back. Bruce Springsteen was playing a show in Milan, and Alex had surprised me with tickets. When the Boss calls, you go -- regardless of whether you are hobbling around on crutches with a broken foot (sorry, Alex).

The Navigli district is dominated by a gorgeous canal lined with bridges, a street market, fantastic food and gelato joints.

When restaurants in Italy say they open at noon, they mean noon Italian time -- which is closer to 1pm. Not that we're the type to stand outside tapping our feet, waiting for the gate to be lifted, drooling over our dreams of pasta...

Pasta in Milano, Italy

An absolutely incredible meal at a spot across the street from our cheap-o hotel in Chinatown. We ate there because they were showing the game -- the quarter-final of the European Championship, Italy versus Germany. Italy lost in penalty kicks, I cried, and every patron in the restaurant went around very solemnly offering condolences to everyone else. In any case, the pasta was fantastic. Best country ever.

And right around the corner is the spectacular Galleria Vittorio Emanuele. This is a mall. Seriously. Italy, dude.

Typical Bolognese appetizer sampler. Those gigante beans were MUAH.

Very amped about my pasta.

Alex got the bolognese. It's been five months since he ate this, and he still brings it up in a whimsical, nostalgic voice: "Remember that bolognese in Milano....?"

Bruce Springsteen concert, Milan, Italy 2016

Bruce Springsteen was the greatest concert I have ever seen in my life, and I saw BEYONCE this year. He was absolutely unbelievable. He played for three hours, and he never once stopped grinning. Incredible energy from the Boss, and from the stadium. An absolute blast, and a totally unforgettable experience. Thank you, Bruce. What a man.

The dance party continued back at the hotel room. I didn't take this t-shirt off for about three weeks after the concert.

Ok. Onto more refined, cultured things.

PISCO - Via Agostino Bertani 16

This was a recommendation from Simon and Celestina and it was spot-on perfect (thank you thank you thank you). Seafood + rose in a romantic, cozy, chic setting. Book ahead.

I know what you're thinking, and the answer is yes, we got super fat on this trip, and the bottom of our car dragged on the road as we drove back to Switzerland. #noragrets
